The Differences Between Billiards, Snooker and Pool

Billiards, pool and snooker all involve balls. There are some commonalities between them, but there are key differences. These can be confusing to beginners. This article aims to dispel some of these common misconceptions.

There are many variations of all three games. Each game has its own scoring system and rules. Each game can be considered a table sport but each has its unique set of rules. The most common table size is 8 feet long by 4 feet wide. Pocket billiards are another option.

Pool is one the most well-known table games. It is typically played with three balls of different color. A point is awarded to a player who sinks a given ball. A red ball is worth one point and an object ball is worth six points. A game of pool involves shooting the ball off the bank and into the opposite end. But rules can vary from one area to the other.

Snooker, on the other hand, is a slightly more complex game. One player attempts a steal an object ball, while another player tries foul the cue. At the same moment, the goal of the game will be to score as much points as possible. The "green call", an extra call that is worth three point, will be awarded points to players during the game.

Each game of snooker or pool has its own rules. Snooker, for example, has a specific rule about the size of the ball. A snookerball is smaller than pool at 2 1/8 in diameter. Additionally, a normal billiards sized snooker table ball is smaller than one made of snooker. Snooker balls will therefore travel faster.

Curved pocket led is one of the most intriguing aspects of snooker. It is made from a woven wool that enables it to move faster. Most snooker tables use a net underneath the pocket to collect the balls. Snooker has an interesting characteristic: it is much more skill-level than other billiards games.

As a rule, snooker has a shorter history that billiards or pool. It was originally a gentleman's game based on an older version of pool. Originally played on a table with pockets, it was later rebranded as pool. Yet, snooker enjoys a higher social standing than pocket billiards.

Overall, snooker and pool are far more popular than billiards. They both use the same equipment and rules, but they each have their own set of rules. To win, each player will need to play many frames. A snooker player might rack up 120 points. This is only a fraction, however. These comparisons may be offensive to many pool and snooker player, especially if the players are more experienced.
