Breaking the Crucible Record in Snooker

free pool games

Most people have heard of the term "maximum breaking" while playing snooker. It's the highest break in one frame. For example, a player could make a maximum break by potting all 15 reds and all 15 blacks for 120 points. For 27 points, you can pot all six colors in a single frame to break the limit.

Stephen Hendry’s 147

After breaking the world record of 147, a seven-time World Snooker champion is making headlines. The break came in the seventh frame of his first-round match against Stuart Bingham in Sheffield. The world number-one is now defending the title and is eligible for another major award. Hendry however isn't convinced the extra incentive of a Crucible break of 147 is worth taking the risk.

Ronnie O'Sullivan's 147

Ronnie O'Sullivan has made 15 competitive 147 breaks. His first came at the 1997 World Championship in Sheffield's Crucible Theatre. His latest maximum was recorded at the 2018 English Open, against Elliot Slessor (Allan Taylor). This is the World Championship's fastest male player record.

Jimmy White's No. 147

Jimmy White's 1992 break at 147 was one the most famous breaks in snooker. The British professional had a fantastic career and was one of the most popular snooker players of all time. He won the UK Championship and the Masters as well as six World Championship finals. Despite his successes, he was not able to win The Crucible.

Jimmy White's 147 against Tony Drago

Jimmy White's 147 against Tony Draga is considered one of the best billiards shots ever. It was hit by the former world number one in just three minutes and 31 seconds. It was the fastest century-break in a ranking competition. Drago is a talented player with some faults. His temperament is not always perfect and he often plays poorly against the rest.

Jimmy White's 47 against Jimmy White

A table tennis break of 147 is an incredible achievement. Jim White broke 147 in 1992, but few people know about it. White broke the reds during a match against Steve Davis. After that, he seemed to be on track for his career-high 147. On his 10th black, however, he was faced with a lengthy pot. After kissing off a red, White settled for black. This win earned him PS114,000. Drago was warmly greeted by him after the match.
