The Differences Between Billiards, Snooker and Pool

Billiards, snooker and pool are three different types of games played with balls. Although there is some overlap between the three games, there are still key differences. For beginners, these can be confusing. This article will try to clear up some common misconceptions.

There are many variations of all three games. Each game has its own scoring system and rules. They can all be considered table sports but each one has its own rules. The most common size table is 8 x 4 ft. Pocket billiards are another option.

Pool is one of most popular table games. It is usually played with three balls, each with different color values. A point is awarded to a player who sinks a given ball. A red ball is worth one point and an object ball is worth six points. Generally, a game of pool involves shooting the ball from the bank into the opposite end of the table. But rules can vary from one area to the other.

Snooker, on other hand, can be a much more difficult game. During the game, a player attempts to pocket an object ball, while the other player tries to foul the cue ball. The goal is to score the most points. The "green call", an extra call that is worth three point, will be awarded points to players during the game.

Each sport has its own set of rules, including pool and snooker. Snooker, for instance, has a very specific rule about the size and shape of the ball. A snooker sphere is approximately 2 1/8 inch in diameter, and this is different from pool. Additionally, a snookerball is smaller than a regular billiards ball. The snookerball will travel faster.

The curved pocket lead is one of the best aspects of snooker. It is made of a woven yarn that allows it to move quicker. Most snooker tables will have a net under their pockets to collect the balls. Another interesting feature of snooker is that it has a much higher skill level than most of the other billiards games.

As a rule, snooker has a shorter history that billiards or pool. It was originally a gentleman's game based on an older version of pool. It was initially played on a table that had pockets. Later, it was renamed as pool. Nonetheless, snooker still retains a more social reputation than pocket billiards.

Overall, snooker is more popular then billiards. Although they have their own sets of rules and equipment, they both involve a cue stick, balls and cues. Each player will need to play a number of frames to earn a winning score. 120 points can be earned by a snooker-player. This is only a fraction, however. Many snooker and pool players may take offense at such a comparison, especially if they are experienced players.
