Pool Table Pocket Sizes

The game of pool is only as good as the size of your pocket. They determine the ball's ability to bounce accurately from the pocket. Depending on the style of table you choose, they can vary from 4.5 to 4.625 inches wide to as much as five inches across. American pool tables have pocket openings between 4.5 to 4.625 inches. The pockets in the corners and centre should be 5 to 5 and a 1/2 inches. The pocket should be angled vertically between 12 and 14. English pool tables usually have pockets that are rounded. This provides a better bounce and allows for more tricky shots.

American pool tables are more expensive than European ones

American pool tables generally have larger pockets than English ones. American pool tables will typically have pockets measuring between three to four inches in depth. This makes it easy to play with bigger balls faster. American versions have pockets that are straight-cut in the middle instead of being full corners.

Another difference between American and English pool tables is their shape. American pool tables have pockets that are rectangular, while English tables have pockets that are oval. These shapes depend on the ratio between the ball and the pockets. The angle of the corner pockets is approximately 2/3 the ball's width. However, the centre pockets are 1/2 inch narrower.

Due to the larger balls, an American pool table is much more efficient than an English pool one. Because English pool balls are smaller and more easily lost in the pockets, this is important. Also, English balls tend to react inappropriately because of the higher contact point with the pocket pads. Additionally, American-style tables have wider pocket openings that are ideal for competition 8 and nine-ball games.

Modern pool tables are the same size as traditional ones.

The opening of the pockets varies slightly depending on the size of the table. A table with a 4 foot opening will have a smaller opening that an 8 foot table. American pool tables have different pocket shapes from their European and British counterparts. The American standard pocket measures 142 degrees in length. An English table has a more rounded shoulder with a narrower entrance.

If you are looking for a pool table with a similar size, ensure that it is comparable in size. Although the table length is approximately seven feet, there are many different sizes. The table size of coin-op, bar and other tables is smaller than that, but these are extremely rare. The standard size of a pool table includes a drop pocket and a ball return. The dimensions of the pockets will vary depending on where you live and what era it is.

The materials used to build a pooltable can also impact the game. American tables tend to have thicker sectional slabs. These are made up of several pieces, which are then sealed with special wax. English pool tables have one piece of slate, and are 21mm thick.
