Having only started a couple of years ago, billiards enthusiast Ralph Greenleaf has already become one of the country's best players. He has been to three different cushion billiards tournaments. He also placed in the top 10 of the Illinois 3-cushion Billiards Tournament last month. He has been attending a local club for billiards in the Twin Cities each month.
Nguyen Quyet Nguyen and Tran Quyetchien are two of Vietnam's most highly-ranked billiards players. These two players are among the top ten in the world. Both players are currently ranked within the top eight. Tran Quyetchien is ranked number seven. Both players are the tournament’s defending champions. Ngo Dinh Nai is ranked 29. Jeremy Bury from France is ranked number 18.
The 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Continental Cup will take place in Vietnam on December 20-22, in Seoul. The tournament will be attended by eight top Vietnamese players. The total prize money is approximately 160,000 USD. A number of events and other events will take place throughout the year in addition to this tournament.
The United States Billiard Association is the official governing body of carom-billiards in America. The National Championship is the culmination of a series of events that are organized by the USBA. The USA will be represented by the two top players at the Pan-American Championship.
The three tournaments of cushion billiards at Madison 3-Cushion Billiards club were highly competitive and closely contested. Two flights of six players each were fielded in the tournament. The tournament was handicapped. Only the top five players in each flight progressed to the semis. The top 12 players will receive $7,400. Bruce Venzke, a cue game legend, was the tournament director.
UMB (Union of Billiards and Carom Billiards), is the official governing body of 3-cushion pool billiards worldwide, sponsored the tournament. The UMB also organizes a number of recurring tournaments each year. The UMB Turnier Schedule will display a number of upcoming events.
The tournament took place in Binh Duong, a south province. It featured eight teams who battled for three nights. The semi-finals are decided by the top 2 teams. The quarterfinals are decided by the 3rd and 4th teams. Single elimination will be the final round. The Las Vegas World Cup 3-cushion-billiards tournament's winner will be awarded a cash prize worth $20,000. This is the first time the Vietnamese have sent a representative to the semi-finals.
Although the 3-Cushion Billiards Tournament may be a new game, it has gained popularity in many countries. It was also featured as a short animation in Disney's Mathmagic Country. In addition, it was featured in the 2007 Goya Award-winning Spanish film Seven Billiard Tables.
