How to play English in pool

For a great game, it is important to know how to properly speak English in pool. Although mistakes are possible when speaking English, you can learn ways to rectify them and win more matches. There are several methods you can use to achieve this. These include Reverse English and Left English. Learn how to play Call-shot.

Right English

The correct English refers to a shot that causes a cue ball's trajectory to be reversed. If executed correctly, the shot will cause cue balls to travel left, right and backwards. Normal shots will follow straight lines. English allows you to modify the trajectory with a variety of techniques. This shot, which is also known by the American deflection (or squirt), is more popular in the United States.

Left English

English is the term pool players use to describe the side spin caused by the cueball's contact with an object. You can perform it by hitting the ball slightly off centre or hitting it harder. English can also be used in combination with top or bottom spin. Some players refer to side spinning as "English" and are actively working on improving their skills. Although most players are able to use English to improve their shots and practice, they don't know all the terms. Their shots can end up being too wide.

Reverse English

Reverse English, also known as pool, is a shot in that the cueball makes a deflection (or side-spin) on its way towards the target. This shot can prove very helpful, especially in matches. It can help you line your cue ball up with the target, and keep it from going too far to either the side or the bottom of the table.

Call-shot game

A common variant of traditional pool is the call-shot game. Before making a shot, the shooter must choose a pocket and indicate his choice to his opponents. He must choose between stripes and solids. The shooter makes a decision and calls the 8 ball.

Scratched object balls

Scratched object balls are balls that are not legal to touch with a pool cue. They cause scratches on the pool table. The ball will not move if it is in a hole. The ball will scratch if it hits another object or the cueball strikes a corner.

Drawing stroke

There are many types of drawing strokes in English pool. A draw stroke is a shot that requires the cue ball to reverse its path after hitting the ball. You need a cue with a loose grip. Players have different requirements. A professional player might break at 36 mph, while an amateur can achieve the same result by breaking at half the speed.
