You can find many different parts in pool tables. The multi-layered tabletop is covered with billiard cloth. People like different colors of cloth for their pool tables. This allows for a more customized experience. This also makes sure that the playing surface remains smooth.

The slate is the top part of a pooltable. Slate is a heavy, milled stone that is used for the table's surface. Most pools tables are made of either 1" or 3/4" slate. Check for the correct size if youre looking for a replacement table.

The rails are an important part of the pool table. Rails are usually made from synthetic or natural gum. They help provide support to the table and are glued to the slate. Sometimes, the rail can be made from solid wood. Other materials include fiberboard or plywood.

Cushions are used to protect the rails and keep them from getting damaged. Cushions are made from either vulcanized rubber cloth. These cushions can also be used in conjunction with rails.

The top rail, which is shorter than the side rails, is attached to the top edge of the table. Side rails run along the length and width of the pool table. To increase strength, cross beams can be added. A transition plate is usually installed between the slate and the rails. Using a transition plate helps make the table stronger.

The foot of the table is the location for the bottom rail. The rail apron can be described as a horizontal timber which is used for support of the rails. The bed shelf is another support. Both of these support are made from solid wooden pieces. Post legs can be considered perfect legs.

Corner pockets are holes at the corners of a table. Corner pocket opening angles are 142deg (+- 1%). The minimum opening distance for the corner pockets is 4 7/8inches and the maximum is 5 1/8inches.

The horizontal line running horizontally across a table is the headstring. The head string begins at the point where the second side pocket diamond is located. However, a player can draw a line on the cloth to mark the start of the head string.

The foot spot is located at one end of the table. The foot spot will be the landing place for the ball if the shooter is unable to control the ball. It also houses the nameplate.

Be sure to inspect the slate thickness when you purchase a new pooltable. The slate should not be more than 1 inch thick. Dealers sell tables that are 7/8 inches thick. They may be cheaper but will not provide the same accuracy as a 1-inch slate.

Your pool table cloth is an important part. Modern billiard fabric is usually made from a combination of synthetic nylon, natural wool, and synthetic polyester. Billiard felt is also part of the cloth. Although some players prefer a particular color cloth, the cloth should be uniform and long-lasting. The cloth should be brushed at least once a month in order to preserve its quality.
